Thousands of pounds were raised for Wigan Youth Zone at their Annual Charity Ball which returned last weekend, after a hiatus of two years due to Covid-19.
Wigan Youth Zone’s Annual Ball has been hailed a success after raising £35,000 for the charity.
The event was attended by over 160 people who donned their glad rags for the Glitzy event which was hosted by, former Wire FM star, Pete Pinnington on Saturday 5th of March.
It was a welcome return for the local prestigious event, which did not take place the previous two years due to Covid restrictions. The fundraising dinner’s theme was ‘Spring Back Into Action’ where the funds raised will be used to support Wigan Youth Zone’s vision of inspiring and empowering young people (8-19, up to 25 with additional needs) to fulfil their potential.
The guests enjoyed a three-course dinner and took part in raising funds by entering the raffle and bidding on the auction prizes including an elegant 5.33ct Diamond Bracelet valued at £10,000 donated by Neil Kay at Kay’s Arcade and a one week stay in Barbados donated by the Whelan Family. Guests bid generously and donated a significant amount throughout the evening, all of which will go towards the life-changing work at the Youth Zone.
Throughout the evening, entertainment was provided by Wigan Youth Zone members who produced some exclusive performances, especially for the event whilst attending the Youth Zone’s performing art and dance classes.
Speaking at the event was Wigan Youth Zone’s Chairman, Richard Ainscough who welcomed everyone to the event before leading a poignant silence for those in the world who are experiencing suffering and pain. Two Wigan Youth Zone members, Tasha Lee and Kai Jones spoke separately about how the Youth Zone has made a significantly positive impact on their lives – which brought people to their feet. This was followed by a compelling and heartfelt appeal by WYZ Chair-Elect, Gary Speakman, who cited the importance of investing in the future of the young people of Wigan and Leigh.
The evening was brought to a close by The Graduates who played music into the early hours of the morning.
Anthony Ashworth-Steen, Executive Director at Wigan Youth Zone, said:
“Since our establishment, Wigan Youth Zone has invested in over 28,500 young people by providing a safe space for their growth and development and the results are clear to be seen. By attending the Youth Zone, young people become more confident, less isolated, more active and more prepared for life and an investment in our charity returns a social value for the whole community of 2.17 – or, in other words, for every £1 invested it generates a positive return of £2.17.”
“The success of the ball is a testament to our supporters who recognise the power and value of this work for both now and the future, but we do not take this for granted. I am continually overwhelmed by the generosity we receive – it is truly heart-warming and inspiring.”
Chairman of the Trustees, Richard Ainscough said:
“I am delighted that the Annual Ball has returned with such positivity, raising funds which will prove vital to the services of Wigan Youth Zone for the young people of our Borough.”
“Thank you to everyone who made the night so successful – the Youth Zone team for their organisation, the young people for their stunning, brave performances and our Board their tireless endeavours.”
Wigan Youth Zone is committed to their safety by offering them somewhere to go, something to do and some to talk to every day.
It is hoped that with the continuation of such initiatives like the ones above, Wigan Youth Zone will continue to give back to the wider Wigan and Leigh communities. To support the work of Wigan Youth Zone, please click here
