This Friday 7th June we will be hosting a Business Brunch for local business leaders with our very special guest speaker, Andy Burnham. The Mayor of Greater Manchester has long been a supporter of our youth zone as former MP to neighbouring Leigh. He will be interviewed by the Chair of Wigan Youth Zone about the successes and challenges of his career in politics, looking to the future of Greater Manchester since winning a historic third term as the region’s representative.
Since starting his role in 2017, Burnham has become renowned for his dedication to shaping the future of the region. His priorities include building an integrated Bee Network transport system, ending rough sleeping and transforming Greater Manchester into one of the greenest city regions in Europe. He is prepared to complete these missions and more since being re-elected for a historic third term earlier this year.
Before his tenure as Mayor, Burnham served as the Member of Parliament for Leigh from 2001. He held various ministerial positions in government, including roles at the Home Office, Department of Health, and the Treasury. Burnham’s commitment to public service has earned him accolades and respect across the political spectrum.
Guests will also hear from our CEO, Anthony Ashworth-Steen and our Head of Fundraising, Lynsey Heyes, about the fantastic facilities and events at WYZ, and how we are supporting the next generation of young people in Wigan & Leigh.
“Wigan Youth Zone does so much to support and inspire young people in the borough where I live; changing lives and providing access to new experiences and skills in a safe and fun environment. As MP for nearby Leigh for 16 years, I know just how important facilities like Wigan Youth Zone are to children in the area."

“We are very excited to welcome Andy back to the youth zone. Alongside the launch of our new organisational strategy, as well as the celebrations for our 11th birthday, this is a very inspiring and exciting time to be involved in our work and we are extremely glad Andy is continuing his long-held support for our services in what promises to be a fantastic event”.
