At Wigan Youth Zone, fostering connections goes beyond traditional networking. This month, we hosted a special event, “Be a Kid 4 the Day,” where participants had the unique opportunity to step into the shoes of our young people.
The first half of the day was a whirlwind of excitement as attendees explored the various offerings on our ground floor. From conquering the climbing wall to showcasing their skills in basketball, badminton, and archery in the sports hall, there was no shortage of active and engaging experiences. The rec area buzzed with friendly competition in pool and gaming, while the art room became a hub of creativity with arts, crafts, and pottery projects.
After an energetic morning, Karen, our culinary maestro, served a delicious lunch that not only refuelled our participants but also allowed them to connect over shared experiences.
As the day progressed, participants ascended to the second floor, where a whole new set of experiences awaited. With a dance class in full swing, the music room alive with the sound of instruments, the den echoing with laughter from games, and issue-based youth work in The Base, focusing on Alcohol and Drug awareness, the upstairs provided a diverse range of opportunities for everyone to explore their interests.
A highlight of the day was getting some of our senior members in on the action. Gemma took on the role of DM (Duty Manager), guiding participants through the day’s adventures. Meanwhile, Benjamin stepped into the shoes of Head of Sports, ensuring that every sports activity was a winning experience.
Our Head of Fundraising, Lynsey Heyes, spoke to us about the event,
“Be a Kid 4 the Day” is more than just a networking event; it’s a chance for professionals to unleash their inner child and get a taste of what our members get to experience. Participants not only had fun but also gained a deeper understanding of the positive impact we aim to make in the lives of young people of the borough.
