On Saturday 6th of May, 2023, Wigan Youth Zone’s Senior Members hosted a Coronation Celebration event to commemorate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. The event was a great success, with young people from across the community coming together to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Sam, Max, Courtney and Macey decided to take on hosting an affordable community event for young people across the borough as part of their Inspire 2022 Youth Action Project. Inspire 2022 is a youth-led events-based social action programme which will use national events as a springboard for young people to design positive activities for their own communities, bridging community divides and giving young people a voice in a year of national celebration.
The Coronation Celebration event was open to young people aged 8-19 throughout the day and featured a variety of activities and entertainment. There was live music, food, drinks, games, and activities, such as face painting, bouncy castles, and photo booths taking place at Wigan Youth Zone’s state-of-the-art facility, which features a sports hall, dance studio, climbing wall, and much more.
Megan Burrows, Inspire 2022 Youth Worker Lead at Wigan Youth Zone, said, “We were thrilled to have hosted this event to celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. It was important to us to commemorate this historic occasion, and we’re excited to have brought together young people from across the community for a fun-filled celebration.”
Their event was a great opportunity for young people to socialize, learn new skills, and pursue their interests. All proceeds from the event went towards supporting the ongoing work of Wigan Youth Zone, which provides a safe and supportive environment for young people to grow and thrive.
Sam Lee, Wigan Youth Zone Senior Member, said: “We were delighted to welcome young people from all backgrounds to come together and celebrate this important event. It was an opportunity for us to showcase all the amazing things that Wigan Youth Zone has to offer and to give all young people a chance to have some fun and make new friends.”
The Coronation Celebration event was a great success, with over 288 young people from the local community who attended and was a fantastic way for Wigan Youth Zone to unite young people to celebrate a significant historical moment. It was a great opportunity for young people to have fun, make new friends, and learn new skills while supporting a great cause. Wigan Youth Zone continues to be an invaluable resource for young people in the community, providing a safe and supportive environment where they can reach their full potential.
