Brad’s Challenge: Run 406 Miles For Charity
It’s been almost a month since Brad Evans crossed the finish line of his incredible December challenge. Running 31 half marathons in 31 days – that’s 406 miles in total – was a feat of endurance, determination, and heart. He ran 406 miles for charity, all this was achieved whilst continuing to turn up to every session with a smile on his face and full of enthusiasm and dedication.
For Brad, this wasn’t just about putting one foot in front of the other. It was about making a real difference. As a Youth Worker at Wigan Youth Zone, Brad knows how vital our work is for the young people of Wigan and Leigh, and he set out to raise £5,000 to support our Miracle on Parsons Walk campaign. While his trainers might finally be getting a break, his fundraising journey is still ongoing – and he needs your help to reach his target.

The Challenge
Think about what Brad achieved for a moment. He ran in rain, wind, and freezing December nights. He battled illness, dodged aggressive wildlife (yes, the infamous swans!), and pushed through every physical and mental barrier to keep going day after day.
This wasn’t just a challenge of physical endurance – it was a mental mountain to climb. To wake up every day, knowing the pain in his legs and the fatigue in his body, and still lace up his running shoes took a level of commitment that most of us can only admire.
Why He Did It
Brad’s mission was simple: to make a difference for the young people who need it most. With over 14,000 children in the borough living in poverty, the need for support has never been greater. Brad’s efforts have already raised an incredible £2,762, but he’s determined to hit that £5,000 goal. Every penny raised goes towards providing opportunities, safe spaces, and vital support for vulnerable young people in our community.
Reflecting on the experience, Brad said,
“It was unbelievable. One week in I had to run through Storm Darragh, a week later I had to run with food poisoning. Then on day 20 I got hypothermia but all in all I managed to get through it all. On Christmas Day I was running in a Santa suit and then I finished in front of Wigan Youth Zone on New Year’s Eve. Over the past four weeks I’ve been taking it day by day and not even thought about the finish. When I saw them all there a wave of emotion came over me, I just sprinted to the finish line.”

The Journey Continues
Though his challenge ended on New Year’s Eve, Brad’s fundraising story isn’t over. Hitting his £5,000 target would mean the world to him – and to the young people who benefit from the services Wigan Youth Zone provides.

A Final Word
Brad’s story is about more than miles and money. It’s a story of resilience, determination, and the power of community. He’s proven that one person really can make a difference – and he’s inspired so many of us along the way.
Let’s help Brad cross the ultimate finish line and show the young people of Wigan and Leigh that their community stands behind them.
